The Abraham Fund Initiatives: Knesset Member Barakeh's Decision to Visit Auschwitz: A Brave Step January 18, 2010 |
|
The Abraham Fund Initiatives, an NGO that works towards shared living and equality between Jewish and Arab citizens of Israel, calls on Knesset Member Mohammad Barakeh to stand firm in his decision to visit the concentration camp Auschwitz – Birkenau as part of the parliamentary delegation headed by Chairman Reuven Rivlin.
Barakeh's important decision to join the delegation indicates leadership and courage to learn about the Holocaust as a unique event in human history and to recognize the pain of the Jewish people. It raises hopes that other Arab leaders will follow his example. In addition, hopefully this move will encourage Jewish leaders to relate to the Arab public, to recognize the continuous injustice they face and to be aware of their historical narrative.
